Joy, as she was known, was born in Springhill Nova Scotia June 28, 1930. She was the eldest daughter of Rev. George Nelson and Marjorie Beryl Hamilton.
Following her move to Dartmouth, NS she met her soon to be husband Kenneth Cyril Jones and they married in 1953. They raised 3 children, Karen Eileen, Bruce Kenneth and Kevin Douglas. She had the pleasure of watching over 6 grandchildren Gary, Kristen, Noah, Courtney, Colby, and Riley (half-brother) and 4 great grandchildren Jade (half-sister), Charley, Carson, Caven.
A stay-at-home Mom by nature, her children were her priority. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church Dartmouth. As her children matured, her interest turned outward, completing a BA in English with Distinction from Mount St. Vincent University. She then went on to a career teaching English as a second language to new Canadians.
Following retirement, she and Ken enjoyed their time together taking numerous car drives, her passion and travelling extensively with family. She coveted time spent with her children and grandchildren never tiring of their stories and escapades.
Joy was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and sister Geraldine (Jerry) Moir.
Visitation will be held at Mattatall’s Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth on November 14th from 10-12, followed by the Service at 12:30, with interment to follow.
