Shouldice Donald B. – 93, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at the Admiral Long-term Care Centre. Born in Winnipeg he was the son of Ernest and Pearl (Bradley) Shouldice. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley and his loving daughter Susan. He is survived by sons David and Paul (Margo), grandchildren; Andrew, Daniel, Michael (Pamela), Emma and Bradley, great grandchildren; Victoria and Owen.
After his discharge from the Canadian Army he started his career with the Northwest Pacific Railroad in Winnipeg, and then moved to the sales department of Canada Packers. In 1952 he and Shirley married and while working with the Salada Food Company transferred with family to Calgary, then back to Winnipeg as Sales Manager for Kellogg’s Salada Foods Ltd., and finally to Dartmouth as the Atlantic Regional Sales Manager for Kellogg Canada Inc. where he retired in 1986. He always took tremendous pride in his work and instilled the value of hard work and determination in his family.
Don was an avid modeller having scratch built all manner of models, but his passion was model railroads. A crowning achievement was when his HON3 narrow gauge railroad layout, Crystal River Railroad was featured as the cover story in the magazine Model Railroader. Don loved to engage in conversation, his favourite topics being his family’s genealogy, model railroading and Canadian World War history.
He was a tall, commanding figure with a gentle soul, a strong sense of duty and loyalty, and was an unwavering pillar of support to his wife and family. He was very sentimental and loving and will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
A private committal service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Admiral Long-term Care Centre for their kindness, exceptional care, and compassion for Don. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. To view or place an online message of condolence please visit www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
