David Allan McIntyre

Son of the late Judge Leo McIntyre and Lenore Kennedy, younger brother of Michael (Sue Lojewski), Ronald (the late Verne Boudreau), older brother of Mary-Rose.

A proud Bay Boy from Main Street. You could count on seeing him, every March Break, with his best friends, Glace Bay Pizza and tons of laughs. It was a highly anticipated event, and the spot where his kids first learned the true meaning of friendship.

After his studies at ST FX in Antigonish, Dave made his way out West where he spent the better part of a decade “making money, and having a ball”. He discovered his passion for teaching, and, most importantly, met the love of his life Joan (née MacLellan). He sealed the deal with a historic first kiss under The Trestle in Canmore.

The birth of their first child, Jon-David, in 1985, brought them back to their native Nova Scotia where they eventually became official Dartmouthians, living a pleasant life on Pleasant St, and bestowing Davie yet another circle of friends that would last a lifetime (notably, the greatest family-fusion-friendship of all time, with the Scattolon Family). Kayla (Germain Lehay, Alice 5 and Felix 3) was born in 1989. The family became complete with Kathryn (Tyson Cameron) in 1994. A big crew and a lot of love in a small house with a warm fire.

Mr.McIntyre was a natural teacher (and administrator), who had a gift for turning the occurrences of life into teachable moments. For Dave, not all lessons came from a book, and he believed that the humanity which filled the world around us was often the best resource for learning. He had a long-lasting impact on thousands of students who will remember his one-of-a-kind way of getting messages through to his pupils, and helping them cultivate critical thinking skills about society at large.

Although it could be said that the best thing Joan gave David was their children (and The MacLellans), he himself would say that, above all, she gave him Margaree.

In 2001 they acquired ‘The Glebe’ in SW Margaree; a game-changer for the McIntyre Family. Anyone who has driven down the River Road during the summer has certainly received an affectionate wave from Davie, often perched on his Throne - the Veranda - with a smile on his face and a glass of red wine in hand.

The memories he made at The Glebe are countless, precious, and will live on in the hearts of the hundreds (yes, hundreds) of people who were fortunate enough to experience his unforgettable energy in his most Happy Place.

Davie will undoubtedly be remembered for his insatiable love of life, people, and laughing. A natural storyteller and impersonator, who seemingly had all the time in the world to share a story or tell a joke. His priority in life was to savour each moment, each meal, and each person in his midst. He leaves us with the ever-important reminder that all that matters in life are the people you love and the memories you share.

It would be impossible to list all of David’s friends, but he would have insisted on a few shout outs: The Black Street Aces, the Glace Bay gang, his nieces and nephews, the MacLellan’s, the Mancinis, his teaching buddies (old and new), the Thursday night Neighbours crew, his pour-at-four team, his cherished neighbours in the SW, and his precious grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9th, from 2pm-6pm at Mattatall funeral home on Portland Street in Dartmouth. Funeral to be held, Friday, July 28th, 11:00pm at Saint Joseph's Parish in SW Margaree, Inverness Co.
