Born in Middlewood, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Thelma (Crouse) Ernst. Carol was a spritely soul, who sought to nurture all she met. In fact, despite mastering a number of occupations, caring for others truly was Carol’s greatest calling. While attending to a seemingly endless list of tasks and jobs, Carol proudly raised four sons with equal measure of devotion, pride and humour.
Camping with friends and family was a favourite pastime for Carol. She was an avid gardener, voracious reader and connoisseur of many an action movie. Most importantly, ‘Bunty’ loved a good joke, and a great laugh. And any who were fortunate to have crossed paths with ‘Kar-Co’ enjoyed the pleasure of her generous hospitality and scrumptious meals. In recent years Carol found a new passion working with the elderly and terminally ill. Her work enabled many to enjoy their final days with peace and dignity. Her worst kept secret was that Carol took as much pleasure keeping company with her clients, as they took from her care!
Carol leaves behind loyal sister Beverly Nauss; dear cousin Yvonne Miller; great friend Norman Miller; four cherished sons, Terrance (Kathleen Sullivan) Shaw; Kevin Shaw; Glenn (Caitlin Goggin) Shaw; Ian Shaw; dear nieces Kathy (Monty Thibeault) Fraser, Pam Nauss-Redden and dear nephew Chris Nauss. She was a beloved grandmother to Terri-Anne and Morgan, and great-grandmother to Grace.
Visitation will take place 6-9 pm Wednesday August 7, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street. Funeral Service will take place 1 pm Thursday, August 8, in Stairs Memorial United Church, 44 Hester Street. Rev. Ralph Yarn officiating. Carol was dearly loved, and will be deeply missed. Her enduring spirit is a gift to the many who knew and loved her. Rest in peace Mother, Grammy, Aunt, Sister, Cousin, friend; you made us all a little better, and so much happier.
