JOHNSTONE, Barbara Isabel – 77 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully in the Veterans Memorial Building Q E II on July 17, 2016, after living with cancer for many years. Born in 1939 in Glace Bay to the late Elvon and Elizabeth (Carmichael) Wilton. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gordon, son Brian (Suzanne), Woodstock NB, sister Betty Ann Sanford, Annapolis Royal, brother in law and sister in law Robert and Dorothy Johnstone, daughter in law Stacey Johnstone, grandchildren Cassie and Jillian, Bradley and Alex, many cousins and nieces. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her son Kevin in 2013 and brother in law Robert Sanford. Barbara was a member of Woodlawn United Church. She began her career as secretary at Morrison Glace Bay High School before continuing her work for the Dartmouth District School Board as secretary at Mary Lawson School. Barbara had a love for family, friends and gardening. Donations in her memory may be made to Woodlawn United Church, Dartmouth, Canadian Cancer Society Nova Scotia Division, Canadian Diabetes Association Nova Scotia Division., or charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital as well as the Palliative Care staff of 4 Eastwood Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, for their kindness and compassion. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 2pm Friday July 22, 2016 in the funeral home chapel, Rev Phillip Kennedy officiating. A Private graveside service will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Grand Lake Road, Sydney N.S. officiated by Rev. Robert Stevens.
