Alfred "Bob" Robert Hallett

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alfred Robert “Bob” Hallett, age 80, of Dartmouth on December 5, 2019. Born in Lockeport, NS, he was a son of the late John and Agatha (Townsend) Hallett of Lockeport. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene (Holden); sons, Frank (Bonnie) and Todd (Emma) and their children, Claire, Liam and Lucy of Victoria, BC; as well as brothers/sisters, Jack (Louise), Eleanor (the late Raymond Freeman), Wallace (Irene), Helen (Brud Goulden), Harvey (Charlotte), Jane (Sanford Hood), Richard (Caroline), and Angus (Donna).

Bob was an active member and past Warden of the Church of the Holly Spirt. He was a member of the Masonic Order, raised in the Lodge of St Mark (1988), past District Deputy Grand Master (2002) and affiliated with the Eastern Star Lodge 51 (2006). Bob joined the Canadian Armed Forces in January, 1957 after fishing with his father and getting severely seasick. Whilst in the CAF, he served in Germany (57-58) with the Canadian Guards then transferred to 2nd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment in 1959 where he was a paratrooper and Armoured Personnel Carrier Instructor. He returned to Germany from 65-68, retiring at the rank of Sergeant in 1969. Bob subsequently attended the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology carpentry course and upon completing his training in February 1970, he joined the Canadian Coast Guard. He travelled throughout Nova Scotia and Sable Island, repairing and constructing lighthouses for the next 28 years. After a combined 40 years of service to Canadians, Bob retired as the Carpentry Supervisor in March, 1998. A good life well lived.

Services will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Dartmouth, NS on Saturday, December 14; a public Masonic Service will take place at 1:30 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm, Rev Edwin Ebsary officiating. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity Church (Jordan Falls) or charity of your choice.
