She was the daughter of the late Walter Ashton and Mary Elizabeth True and wife of Charles L. Roman Jr., who predeceased her. Betty was born in Northampton, MA where she spent her childhood years. She was a graduate of University of Connecticut and later taught in New London, CT, where she met her husband. They relocated to New York during the growing years of their family. Ipswich, MA and Glastonbury, CT were their homes in retirement until her recent move to the south coast to be closer to family.
Her family includes daughter, Marylou T. Clarke and husband Bruce, of Dartmouth, MA and son, Charles T. Roman and wife Nancy of East Greenwich, RI. Her grandson, James and wife Aryn of Charlton, MA are parents to great granddaughters Jillian Elizabeth, Ayla Joy, and Emma Grace. Her grandson, Gregory Clarke resides in Boston and Ipswich, MA. Her grandson, David C. Roman and wife Kristin reside in Upton, MA. She also treasured her cousins, their children, and her many loving friends.
Betty was a popular hostess, often entertaining family and friends at her home where guests were drawn to her welcoming hospitality and great cooking. Throughout her life she adopted orphan pets who soon became loved members of her family. She enjoyed bridge, bowling, boating, and church activities, but family was her passion.

Funeral arrangements are with the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT DARTMOUTH 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02748. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be from 9 -11AM on Friday, February 12, 2016, followed by her Funeral Service at 11AM in the funeral home.
