Jean V. (Van Dyke) Clarke, 77, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at her residence. She was the loving wife of the late Thomas B. Clarke.
Born in Berlin, NH the daughter of Rev. Andrew and Ann (Petty) Van Dyke she lived in Dartmouth before moving to New Bedford 12 years ago. She was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church.
She was a social worker for the Kennedy-Donovan Center and also New Bedford Child and Family Services. Jean was very active in her church where she also enjoyed helping in the food pantry. Mrs. Clarke was an avid photographer but her church and family were her life.
She is survived by four sons, Andrew B. Clarke and his wife Tracy of South Dartmouth, Philip D. Clarke of New Bedford, David W. Finn-Clarke and his husband Robert of New Bedford and James R. “Bar” Clarke of South Port, ME; a brother, Stephen Van Dyke of NH; a sister, Sarah Ann Lopez of Lincoln, MA; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Judith A. Clarke and her brother William Van Dyke
Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 1:00pm at Grace Episcopal Church, corner of School and County Sts. in New Bedford. Burial will be private. For online tributes please visit: www.waring-sullivan.com
