Mary Frances Weiner

Mary graduated from St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania in 1969. She raised her family in Danbury, CT while pursuing her career as an elementary school teacher primarily at Ellsworth Avenue Elementary School. In 2001 she married her husband, Jay, and they just celebrated 20 wonderful years of marriage. Mary and Jay enjoyed biking, eating out together at their favorite local spots, and traveling over the years, most recently in their RV across the northern part of the united states ending at Mount Rushmore. Mary loved creating traditions and memories with her children and grandchildren, including annual photo albums for each grandchild, making special-themed pinatas and cakes for birthday parties, easter egg hunts, making chocolate candies, baking sweets, playing many games, creating crafts and activities, and taking the children to museums, zoos, amusement parks and the beach. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her book club, liked experimenting with new recipes and loved to walk and bike for exercise.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Weiner of Woodbury, CT; her daughters, Kerri Leavay and her husband, Chris, of Fairfield, CT and Lorye Peddie and her husband, Dave, of Newburyport, MA; Step-daughters, Lisa Vara and her husband, Nick and Stephanie Weiner; grandchildren Ryan, Matthew, Brendan and Kate Leavay, Ella Peddie and Anthony and Lauren Vara. She is also survived by her sister Elaine Little and her husband, Craig of Cortland, NY and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Green Funeral Home in Danbury, CT on Saturday October 23, 2021 from 2-4 PM with eulogies at approximately 3 PM. Following, Mary’s family would like to invite their family and friends to a reception in Danbury.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Mary F. Weiner Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be given to a deserving Danbury High School student as Mary valued education and always encouraged all students to seek higher education.
