Maria Ivone DeSousa, 83, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, aunt, sister and friend. She departed this life and gained her angel wings on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 peacefully at home in Danbury, CT. She was the wife of Jose A. DeSousa.
Maria Ivone was born December 4, 1940 in Ferreiros do Dao, Portugal; she was a daughter of the late Fernando Borges and Elisa Mendes. Maria Ivone moved to the United States in 1967 for a better life with her parents and siblings.
Maria Ivone worked at Capital Factory of Danbury as a machine operator. She loved being a mother, her son, Carlos, was her world. She enjoyed taking care of her vegetable garden and cooking the yummy Portuguese traditional foods, Portuguese chourica, cod fish balls and chourica bread. She was an amazing cook.
Maria Ivone was predeceased by her brothers: Antonio Borges, Joaquim Mendes and Jose Borges; and her sister: Leonor Luis.
Maria Ivone leaves behind her devoted husband of 56 years, Jose A. DeSousa and her loving son, Carlos DeSousa. Also surviving is her brothers, Mario Borges and Americo Borges and Luciano Borges as well as sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Deer Hill Ave., Danbury, CT. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received from 9:00am - 10:30am on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
