Joseph Anthony Ranieri, 76, of New Fairfield, formerly of Mahopac, New York passed away on March 16, 2020 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Alice (O’Connor) Joe was born on July 8, 1943 in New York City to Salvatore and Elizabeth (Sterrantino).
Joe served as a New York City police officer for 24 years in the 30th precinct, Anti- Crime Unit, Manhattan North Narcotics and retired from Night Watch as a detective. In 1991 he received membership into the Honor Legion of the Police Department of the City of New York for courageous action in the line of duty.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, Joe is survived by his children: Allison (John) Perillo of New Fairfield, CT; Elizabeth (Joseph) Muro of Bethel, CT and Joseph (Patti) Ranieri of Hopewell Junction, NY. Also surviving is his sister Natalie McCabe and her two children, Beth and Peter. Joe was proudest of his title of “Poppy” given to him by his grandchildren; Jeremy, Brandon and Julia Perillo, Alicia Muro, Tess, Grace and Jack Ranieri.
The Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated on Friday , March 20,2020 11:00 am at St Edward the Confessor Church, Interment will follow at Mt View Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
