Gordon A. Dopslaff, 78, of New Fairfield, died peacefully at home on December 28th, after a long struggle with dementia. An all around gentleman, Gordon was best known for his dry wit, his athleticism, and his devotion to his family. He grew up in Massapequa, New York, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he played 4 years of baseball. Shortly after graduation, he married the love of his life, Patricia Cummings, and they spent their early married years in the Air Force after which they settled in New Fairfield, where they have resided for the last 40+ years. Gordon had a long career with the phone company as a systems engineer, retiring in 1995. He also enjoyed traveling, golf, music, and sports (Go Mets, Jets, UConn women, and Army!).
Gordon is survived by Patricia, his beloved wife of 55 years, and their three daughters and their spouses, Krista and Ken Roberts, Laura and Dan Alesi, and Mary and Kevin Siemonsen, and their seven amazing grandchildren Lindsay, Ben, Jenna, Haley, Hanna, Luke, and Jordan; his brother, Gary Dopslaff; his aunt Shirley Lenker; nieces Susan Owens, Debbie Robinshaw, Wendy Dopslaff, and nephew Gary Dopslaff. He had many friends and family who will miss him dearly. The family wishes to thank the caregivers, especially John Tomaino, who all gave Gordon the best of care.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Regional Hospice of Danbury.
