Wilma Bynum Broome, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of all who knew her, has left us with heavy hearts and cherished memories. On July 1st, Wilma peacefully departed from this world, surrounded by the love of her adoring family into everlasting life with her Savior Jesus Christ. She will forever be remembered as a beloved wife, a devoted mother, a dear sister, sweet aunt, grandma and friend. Wilma is survived by her children Patty Grebinger (husband Brian), Glenn Broome (wife Patty) & David Broome, sister Bessie Pollock (husband Bob), and brother Ray Bynum (wife Wanda) as well as grandchildren Jennifer Duggan (husband Kurt), Keith Grebinger (wife Pam), Chance Ray (husband Tim), Beth Carpenter (husband Cole) and Tim Broome; and great-grandchildren Trent, Kylie & Kaylen Ray; nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Bert Broome, parents Florence and C. Willis Bynum and brother D. Joe Bynum (wife Betty Kay).
Wilma graduated from Odessa High School in 1952. She grew up in West Texas and New Mexico with dozens of cousins, aunts, and uncles who she loved to keep in contact with. There were often large annual reunions of the Moore, Bynum, and Broome families over the years she loved to attend. Wilma and Bert loved to host gatherings in their home, whether it was game night with friends or New Year's Day with extended family. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, where friends and family always felt welcomed and cherished.
Born into this world with an innate warmth and compassion, Wilma's generous heart was always filled with love for her family. She cherished her role as a wife to her husband, Bert Broome, and mother to her three children. Her unconditional love and unwavering support were the bedrock upon which their lives flourished.
Wilma loved Jesus and her church family. She has been a Sunday school teacher and loved to meet with her church family and attend monthly ladies' teas. Many of her longtime friendships came from the fellowship of believers.
The pursuit of knowledge about her family was a flame that burned brightly within Wilma and led her to study her family genealogy with her sister Bessie and cousin Peggy. There were many trips to the library archives to scan through microfiche and trips to cemeteries to scout out information from tombstones. This was all before we had Ancestry information online. Like her mother, Wilma loved to take pictures of family at gatherings and amassed quite a collection of family photos.
She was also extremely creative and had a remarkable talent for drawing, cake decorating, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She loved to make cozy sweaters and blankets for family members and new babies. Her creations brought joy to all who were fortunate to receive them.
Wilma's life was one of purpose and meaning, lived to the fullest with passion and love. She taught us the love of Jesus, value of family, the beauty of creativity, and the joy of bringing people together. Her legacy will forever be imprinted in the hearts of those fortunate enough to be touched by her presence.
