Wayne Blair Posey, 90, gently passed away from this life and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 24, 2019. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at 12:00 PM at Sparkman-Hillcrest, Dallas, Texas with Rev. Weldon Doherty officiating. Family will receive guests on Monday, January 28, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Wayne was born September 11, 1928, in a farm house outside of Memphis, Texas, the youngest of four sons born to Gervace Callahan Posey and Ivy Estella Simmons Posey. As a child, he lived and worked on the cotton farm, until the family relocated to Grandview and then to Dallas in the early 1940s.
He was baptized at Cliff Temple Baptist in Oak Cliff and graduated from Crozier Tech High School. He married Joyce Lavernne Kelley July 2, 1949, at Calvary Baptist Church and worked briefly for Oak Cliff Bank and Trust prior to joining the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He and Joyce moved to California, where Wayne was stationed, and where son David was born. The family returned to Dallas upon Wayne's discharge in 1955 and he worked several years at the Ford Motor Company plant on East Grand Avenue before finding his calling with the Dallas Police Department in 1959. He received the Johnnie Sides Rookie of the Year award, became a Detective in Burglary and Theft in the early 1960s, earned his Bachelor of Science from Sam Houston State in 1973 and retired with the rank of Lieutenant in 1986. He then joined The Crescent and Rosewood Properties as Director of Security, before retiring for good in his early 70s. Wayne was a Deacon in the Baptist church, providing a quiet and consistent example as his testimony to the many whose paths he crossed from all walks of life. He was a member over the years at Shiloh Terrace in Casa View, Colonial Hills in Duncanville and First Baptist Church Dallas. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist in Cedar Hill at the time of his death.
Wayne became an avid golfer in his early 30s, being encouraged by many of his fellow DPD officers, and played regularly until his late 80s. Wayne also was a skilled woodworker, undertaking tasks ranging from an artist creating beautiful furniture to carpentry on an oversized two car garage where he did everything but pour the slab.
Wayne was preceded in death by his dear wife of nearly 65 years, Joyce, and his brothers, Gregory, Rex and Keith. Wayne is survived by his son, David Posey, his daughter-in-law, Christina (Corie) Posey, grandsons, Reed Posey, Matthew Kane and Joshua Freeman, granddaughter Tara Kane Russell, sister-in-law Frances Posey and numerous dear nieces and nephews.
