Vernall Cole

At an early age, Vernall professed his faith in Christ and was baptized and became a member of Majors Chapel UMC and Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Later Vernall transferred his membership to Glen Oaks United Methodist Church where he remained faithful and true hearted.

Vernall attended Downsville High School and Texas Southern University. He developed a passion for the game of basketball and baseball while attending school. He became fascinated watching older men play dominoes and checkers. He became a wiz at both games and most times would challenge his brothers for a game of checkers or one on one basketball.

Vernall loved spending quality time with family and friends, especially during family and school reunions. He loved to take cruises, at least one or two a year. Vernall was a friend to all that knew him and to those he met. He was the kind of person that never considered one to be a stranger.

Vernall served on the US Army (1965-68) and Army Reserve (until 1981). Later he worked for the Food and Drug Administration, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department (1989-2009), and as Volunteer Manager for Oak Cliff Church’s for Emergency Aid (2009-2021) until his health began to fail him in recent months.

Vernall was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Maggie Mckinney, on August 23, 1969, and to this union a son was born, Vernall Armand Cole.

Vernall Cole left us quietly on December 18, 2021 answering the master’s call and peacefully transitioned from time into eternity. Vernall lived a full and contended life of service to his fellow man. When he arrives in Heaven, Vernall will be greeted by his grandparents (Lank and Julia Cole), (William and Georgia Norwood), his parents (Robert and Callie Cole), a sister (Zelma Cole Brown), sister in-law (Annie Cole), brother in-laws (Oran Brown) (Dewey Bell Sr.), and (Herbert Vaughn), a niece (Brenda Boson), and nephew (Eric Cole).

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Maggie McKinney Cole; son, Vernall Armand Cole

(Monique); beautiful grandchildren, Tylon Cole and Wynter Cole; brothers, Elmer Cole (Dorothy) and David Cole; sisters, Myrtle Bell and twin sister Vernell Vaughn, and a host of nieces and nephews, great and great greats, relatives and friends
