Matt was born in Denver in 1954 and raised in Dallas. He had a long career in real estate. In 1992 he married Pamela and they had two children, Virginia and Thomas.
Matt was humble, grateful, selfless and dedicated to his faith. He was known for his sense of humor and gentle demeanor. An outdoorsman at heart, he had a passion for hunting and taught everyone who visited his ranch about gun safety. He also coached his childrens' Little League teams.
Throughout his illness, he was steadfast in his optimism.
Matt is survived by his wife, Pamela Mattingly; children Virginia and Thomas Mattingly; mother Betty Jean Blakewell; sister Lynn Mattingly; sister-in-law Mersina Stubbs and her sons Phin, John Marshall and Pete; the Aparicio family; and caretakers Necie and LaTashia. He was preceded in death by his father Oliver Mattingly and is now reunited with his hunting buddies Paul, Barry and Frank.
A celebration of his life will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Chapel at 7405 W. Northwest Highway at 4pm on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Honorary pallbearers are Christoper Anthony, Grahm Gillespie, Jerry Hosek, Harrison Kampf, Dan McClain, Pete Stubbs and Greg Wald.
