Terry was born Sept. 16, 1951, and grew up in Chesapeake, Ohio. He was honored to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, and served our country in Italy. When he returned to the United States, Terry built a career in engineering and manufacturing, working for many years with Mobil Chemical in New York, Georgia, California, Texas, New Jersey and Virginia. Terry later established his own veteran-owned small business, growing his company with care and a strong moral compass.
He was a fiercely loyal and generous friend — and he made friends easily thanks to his outgoing, gregarious nature. Terry loved to tell a good story. He was quick to smile, quick to laugh and quick to hop on stage to sing, play the drums or strum a guitar with a live band. He danced and sang with his wife and daughters and always, always made sure to tell his family how much he loved them.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Smith and stepfather, Robert Woolwine. In addition to his mother, Gloria Woolwine, Terry is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Smith; his daughters, Caitlin Smith, Christine Smith and Jennifer Smith Richards; his brothers, Steve Smith and Ronald Smith; grandson Cameron Richards; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other cherished family members.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Terry will be celebrated at a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Dallas. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
