Dr. Susan Chaney, Ed.D., was a devoted nurse, educator, and healthcare advocate whose career spanned over five decades. She dedicated many years of her career to Texas Woman’s University as a professor, mentoring and shaping the future of nursing. As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, she was committed to serving vulnerable populations, working with Parkland Health’s Homeless Outreach Medical Services to provide care to those who needed it most. She earned numerous accolades, including the Cornaro Award of Excellence in Teaching (2006), Texas State Award for Nurse Practitioner Excellence (2011) and the prestigious Susan Cass Faculty Excellence Award (2011). Her legacy lives on through the countless students she mentored, the patients she cared for, and the lasting impact she made on the nursing profession.
Susan was a devoted member of the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, finding great joy and strength in her faith and community. She enjoyed being active by taking walks in the park, playing tennis and practicing pilates and yoga. She treasured time with her grandchildren, always making them feel loved and cherished. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her son, Chris; her stepdaughter, Michelle; her siblings, Chuck, Rebecca, and Nancy; and her grandchildren, Connor, Riley, Ashley, and Nicole. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Charles, and her sister, Amy.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas.
