Stephen Warder Hipp died at his home in Dallas, Texas Thursday morning, June 22, 2023, surrounded by his family after a more than 5 year battle with Colon Cancer. He was born on December 1, 1967 in Nairobi, Kenya East Africa where his father was an executive for the Singer company.
Stephen grew up in Florida – first in Miami until he was 10 years old and then in Orlando where he attended Robert E. Lee Junior High School (n/k/a College Park Middle School) before attending Edgewater High School graduating in 1985. He graduated from Emory University with a B.S. in Economics in 1989 and became a Certified Public Accountant. He worked at a number of accounting and finance companies in Atlanta including Ernst & Young, Bank of Austria Creditanstalt, and G.E. Capital. He finished his career with a long tenure as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in Dallas. Stephen also sat on several public and private corporate boards and non-profits including Priority Technology Holdings and Studio Movie Grill. His work on the homeless cause with Family Gateway was particularly near and dear to his heart. He was immensely successful in his career but valued his family and friends most of all.
He loved art, music, travel, world cuisine and engaging and laughing with people. He was active in his church and made a positive impact in this community and many others. The world is a better place because Stephen Hipp was here. He was close with his step-father, David Heine, and his hero was his grandfather, General William E. “Joe” Potter. He is survived by his devoted husband, Brian Anderson Rogers; his son, Hayden Anderson Rogers-Hipp; his daughter, Ellie Turner Rogers-Hipp; his mother, JoAnn Potter Heine; brothers, Mark Potter Hipp, Kent Lee Hipp; step-sisters, Cathryn Lou Kellstrom, Marisa Ann Cordery; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will begin at 2pm Friday, August 25, at First Unitarian Church of Dallas, 4015 Normandy Ave, Dallas, TX 75205.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Family Gateway.
