He was born in Morristown, New Jersey, on May 16, 1945, while his mother was awaiting the arrival of the troop ship carrying his father home from WWII.
Sidney spent his childhood in San Antonio, Texas until the family moved to Richardson, Texas where he graduated from Richardson High School in 1963. He then attended Texas A&M University, serving in the Corps of Cadets and the Ross Volunteers and graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. While there he met Sharon Ruthan Garrett at the local Tastee Freeze by asking her for a nickel to buy an ice cream cone. They married on March 24, 1967.
After graduating from A&M, Sidney worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas for five months. But homesickness drew them back to an extended family in Bryan/College Station where Sidney accepted a job as City Engineer for the city of Bryan. A son, Brandon, was born in 1968, and a daughter, Stephanie, in 1972. After nine years as city engineer, Sidney began his career as a Project Manager with Collier Electric Company in Temple, Texas. During the next ten years in Temple he enjoyed his children’s school and sports activities, obtained his pilot’s license (which highly entertained his children and terrified his wife), and indulged his love for power and speed with sports cars, motorcycles, and jet boats. The family spent many wonderful weeks in the summers camping and water skiing at Inks Lake State Park.
In 1986, Sidney accepted a similar position with Walker Engineering of Dallas, Texas, and the family moved to Plano, Texas. Some of his proudest work was managing all the electrical components needed to complete the American Airlines hangers at DFW, The Ballpark in Arlington, and the American Airlines Center in Dallas. After retiring in 2006, he continued to enjoy organizing his investments and every other aspect of his life in endless spreadsheets. In addition to hours spent at the computer, he liked watching sports on tv (as long as his team was winning), action movies, streaming British television shows, and pampering and over feeding his beloved Toy Fox Terriers, BeBe and Pepper.
Sidney is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Garrett Scott, his son Brandon Drew Scott, his daughter Stephanie Leanne Ratheal and son-in-law Jeff Ratheal, as well as grandsons Garrett Scott Gerber and Grayson Michael Gerber (who shares Sidney’s birthday), and granddaughters Kailey Elizabeth Gerber and Gracelyn Danielle Scott. He is preceded in death by his father, William John Scott, mother Allie Kirkpatrick Scott, and brother William Alexander Scott.
A private family man, Sidney requested no services at this time. If desired, contributions can be made to the Collin County Animal Shelter or Operation Kindness. Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas is handling the arrangements.
Sidney Ian Scott will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
