LANDIN, Rose J., born April 5, 1927 in Santa Fe, New Mexico and relocated to Dallas about 1942, passed away on February 18, 2018. To escape the hardships of Santa Fe during the Great Depression and WW2, she along with her sister, came to Dallas for a better life. She once worked at a bomb factory during WW2, and later as a seamstress, tailor and wonderful homemaker who provided a warm, loving home to her family. Rose was a very hard working, strong independent woman. She instilled great values, morals and character in her family and raised her children to be devout Catholics. Some of her favorite pastimes were to dance and sing. She also loved to cook delicious meals for her family and made the best tortillas and salsa. She enjoyed good foods and cognac, music, hats and praying the rosary with her son Paul. She was a good hearted, generous and caring mother. She was a real jewel, and will be missed by all those whose heart she touched.
She was preceded in death by her: father Felipe Baca and mother, Elena Jiron Baca; and siblings Miguel, Rafael, Raymundo, Teresa, Loudres, Maria, Nestora, Luisa, Tomasita, & half-brother James; also preceded by her husband in marriage of 46 years Lawrence J. Landin, who worked at Sears; also preceding her was her eldest son Dennis G. Landin, Sr.; and grandsons Dennis G. Landin, Jr. and Christopher M.A. Elizardo.
She is survived by son Paul A. Landin and daughter Helen R. Landin-Soliz; grandchildren Jesse Elizardo, II, Matthew G. Landin and Mary Elizabeth Rose Soliz; and great-grandson Christopher E. Elizardo; daughter-in-law Lucie Landin and son-in-law Paul Soliz; and many other relatives.
With viewing being held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 in the North Chapel at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Holy Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at the North Chapel at Calvary Hill Cemetery with Rev. Fr. John Libone as celebrant.
