Ron is survived by his wife Teresa Nixon; brother Gerald “Jet” Nixon residing in Hawaii; brother Daryl Nixon and wife Mary in Emory, TX; brother John Nixon, in Centerville, VA; daughter Kim Lynch and husband Milton in Griffin, GA; daughter Lisa Candlin and husband Billy in Columbus, GA; son Kevin Nixon and wife Susan in Phenix City, AL; daughter Jamie Howell and husband Scott in Austin, TX; and son Ronald Nixon, Jr. “Boog” and wife Danna in Denison , TX.
He is also survived by his grandchildren - Ashleigh Long in Griffin, GA; Elijah Lynch in Griffin, GA; Faith Candlin in Columbus, GA; Josh Nixon, Destinee Nixon and Katie Nixon in Phenix City, AL; Katie Beth Howell, Braden Howell and Gabby Howell in Austin, TX; Bailey Nixon and Madison Nixon in Denison, TX; and Spencer Rayne Nixon in Denison, TX.; and one great grandchild Knox Whit-Lee Long in Griffin, GA.
In his youth he played Little League baseball at Baker Village. He was an outstanding natural athlete who could play just about any sport he attempted. He was also one of the original members of the South Columbus Boys Club. In 1960 at the age of 17 he was a Professional Putt Putt Champion in Columbus. He entered the prize money column in 9 different occasions and won first place in the Houston, TX tournament amongst others. He was Golden Gloves Champion of Georgia in 1960 as well.
In 1967 & 68 Ron and his brother Daryl handicapped the dog races in Jacksonville, FL. In 1969 he moved to Texas and began working in the construction industry with his brothers and formed the company The Nixon Bros.
Ron loved poker, dominoes and playing the horses. He was a Professional Poker player and was in the WSOP on several occasions. He liked playing at the Commerce Club in California and his favorite game was high stakes Omaha. People would also comment he was the sharpest dressed man around.
In honoring his wishes, Ron will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home located at 8011 Frankford Road, Dallas, Texas 75252, 972-407-6070 (Hwy 161 and Coit Road).
