Robert E. Thomas, a prominent Dallas businessman, died on March 18, 2012. He was born on September 25, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio. He served in the Army during WW II and reached the rank of captain. He married the love of his life, Christine Clement, in 1950 and they had nine children. They were married for 46 years. He worked for Federated Department Stores for over 33 years primarily with Sanger Harris which brought him to Dallas, Texas in 1960. Upon retiring from Sanger Harris, he became President of Travel Host. During his years at Sanger Harris and Travel Host, he made many wonderful life long friends. He showed his love of Dallas by being on numerous civic boards serving as president for the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and Hope Cottage Children's Bureau. He served on the Board of the Dallas Area Rapid Transport (DART) for four cities. He also enjoyed many years serving on the Advisory Board of the Communities Foundation of Texas.
Sixteen years ago, Christine passed away and he found companionship later in life with Patsy Townsend. He loved and embraced his Catholic faith and was a member of St. Rita's parish. He was the quintessential family man and his children loved and respected him.
He is predeceased by his sister Betty J. Thomas. He is survived by his brother William R. Thomas and his wife Dolores Thomas of Columbus Ohio. He is also survived by his nine children: Mary Beth Thomas, Nancy Mixson, John C.Thomas, Bill Thomas, Bob Thomas, Molly Andries, Tim Thomas, Susie Gross, Chris Thomas and all of their families.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 21st, at 5:00pm with visitation from 6:00pm – 8:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. A mass will be held on Thursday, March 22, at 10:30am at St. Rita’s parish. In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, 4421 Lower River Rd., Stella Niagara, N.Y. 14144.
