Richard Lee Cooper, age 78 of Richardson, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Richard was born on July 10, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a son of his father: Lee Cooper and his mother: Opal Francis Naud.
He is survived by his wife: Jan Cooper of Richardson, Texas, son: Russell Cooper of Melissa, Texas, son: Kevin Cooper of Mt. Dora, Florida, and daughter: Lisa Spratt (husband Steve Spratt) of Allen, Texas. His grandsons: Aiden and Mason Spratt. His sister: Cynthia Lee (husband Al Lee) of Santa Clara, Utah. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Richard grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1959. He attended Tulsa University and Mesa Jr. College. Richard worked for The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 35 years.
Richard was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He was also in the Eagle Scouts where he earned three palms. He received the silver award and in 1957 went to the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge.
Richard enjoyed many activities including fishing, golf, computer games, but most importantly spending time with his grandsons. He also loved his dogs Ivy and Tobi. Richard was kind, took great joy in helping people and being with his family. He had an amazing sense of humor, an infectious laugh, was known for his bad jokes, and his enormous love for his family and two grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Richard's name be made to the American Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 705 Central Expressway South, Allen, Texas 75013.
