Paul Stanley Michaelson, M.D. of Dallas, Texas, passed away on August 5, 2019. He was born in Dallas, Texas on April 8, 1938. He was 81 years old. He was an exceptionally devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and a caring friend to all.
He was a gentleman of the old school philosophy who believed that honesty and dignity defined a man’s character; he shunned the limelight and gave charity quietly without asking for any recognition. His word was his bond. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. His sense of humor and wise counsel will be sorely missed by his family and friends who loved him. He was a gentle, kind, loyal and generous man.
He will be remembered for his generosity, honesty, strength of character, sense of humor, intelligence and concern for the wellbeing of others. His wit, intellect and integrity endeared him to the Dallas community. He was associated with many charitable organizations and a lifetime member of Congregation Shearith Israel.
He graduated as valedictorian from Forest Avenue High School, in Dallas, in 1956. He went on to SMU and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He served his residency in Neurology at Tufts Medical Center and attended Harvard Hospitals Boston New England Medical Center for a Neuropathology Fellowship.
It was in Boston where he met his beloved wife Harriet Faber Michaelson; they were married June 16, 1968. After Harriet’s untimely death, he was blessed to find love again, and on August 2, 1981, married his beloved Tricia Brauman Michaelson.
He served proudly as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, Medical Corps, stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was a brilliant and well-respected Neurologist. Patients came from all over the state for their healthcare. He dedicated his life to his practice and to his patients, and was still practicing part-time up until his death. He served as President of the Texas Neurological Society from 1985-1986.
A true renaissance man, he loved to learn, whether it be Spanish, French, piano, calligraphy, or art history. He was an expert gardener, and prided himself on his beautiful garden, fruit and pecan trees. He loved seeing things flourish and grow.
He was preceded in death by his father Issie Michaelson, mother Angelyn Rosen Michaelson, brother Dr. Jerold Michaelson, and wife Harriet Michaelson. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Brauman Michaelson, sister Marcia Wallenstein and husband Jim, and sister-in-law Frankie Michaelson; devoted children Philip and Jennifer Michaelson, Evan and Rachel Fetter, and Melissa and Adam Ridzinski; precious grandchildren Henry and Andrew Michaelson, Bradley, Max, Lindsey and Annie Fetter, and Mia and Asher Ridzinski.
There’s a saying that a great teacher affects eternity; you can never tell where his influence stops. He continues to inspire, influence and make a difference in the lives of the people who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 8, 10 am at Congregation Shearith Israel with interment to follow at Shearith Israel Memorial Park at Dolphin Road. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Congregation Shearith Israel or the charity of your choice.
