Patrick Costigan was born in Dallas, TX in 1941 to Harold Joseph Costigan and Opal Steele Costigan. He called Dallas home his entire life and was a huge Dallas sports fan. Pat was the oldest of 5 children. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and went on to Sam Houston State University. He spent 2 years at Sam Houston and then joined the Air Force in 1961. He spent 4 years in the Air force and was stationed in Little Rock, AR. and Sondrestrom, Greenland. He returned home and went to work for Central Freight Lines where he worked for 44 years.
Pat and Susie were set up on a blind date by their childhood best friends, LP and Joyce Teague and spent the day at the Texas State Fair in October of 1965. It was love at first sight and they married less than 3 months later on his 25 birthday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas Texas. They welcomed their first daughter Beth in 1967, followed by Amy in 1969, and Kevin in 1971.
Pat is remembered for his integrity, faith, love and devotion to his family. He was funny without trying to be and loving in all the everyday ways. Pat loved to see others shine and take the spotlight. He was painfully honest, his grandchildren loved that about him. If you wanted a truthful opinion, you asked Papa. His family and faith came first. He never missed a sporting event or activity for any of the kids, and even coached many sports teams of his children. His very favorite pastime was watching his kids and grandkids performing in the things they love, sports, choir and theater. His support and love for the games even led to him being ejected on occasion.
Pat was an encyclopedia of sports and could tell you things about the athletes most people would consider trivial. The guys were always trying to trip him up with obscure sports info and never succeeded. He could watch several games on the TV while listening to one on the radio and know what was happening with each.
In his final days, Pat was surrounded by the love and laughter of family he held so dear, there were games of Joker - a family obsession, and of course, his favorite movie to watch with his grandchildren, The Country Bears. He leaves so many special memories. His family is so grateful to have been blessed by him for so long.
Pat was proceeded in death by his twin siblings, sister Kathy Lubbers and son Kevin Costigan. He is survived by wife of 58 years, Susie Costigan and daughters Beth Herring and Amy Savoy, Brother Michael Costigan and wife Suzanne Costigan. Sons-in-law Randy Herring, Randy Savoy and daughter-in-law Kim Costigan. Grandchildren Patrick, Kelly, Samantha, Caroline, Jack, Brendan, Jillian, Nicholas and Great Grandson John Patrick.
