Patty was born September 6th, 1947, in Blue Island, Illinois, to Linwood and Johanna Clark, and she was raised in Albany, New York. Highly accomplished in the world of academia, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College (MA). She later received her Ph.D. from the Institute for Behavioral Genetics at the University of Colorado, one of the world’s leading institutes for genetic research on behavior. Patty wrote and published numerous research articles and taught at UT Southwestern Medical School, Metropolitan State (CO), and the University of Missouri Medical School. She also held teaching positions at Georgia State and Emory University (GA).
Patty is survived by her husband, Steven J. Hatchell, with whom she would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this June; two beloved sons, Matthew (Wendy) and Jonathan; two grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Reva and Booker; and her brother, Thomas Clark of Minneapolis.
Additional family members that will miss her deeply include brother-in-law, Dennis Hatchell (Marge), Winston Salem, NC; sisters -in -law, Georgia (Hugh) Dickey, Evergreen, CO; Mary Ann (Jim) Barwick, Littleton, CO; Julie (Nick) Jackovich, St. Louis, MO; nephews, Chris (Emily) Clark, York, PA; Tim (Tara) Clark, Minneapolis, MN; Drew Clark, Charlotte, NC; and niece, Brooke Clark, Stacyville, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother; her in-laws, George and Jeanne Hatchell; and her sister-in-law, Beth Clark.
To say she was an avid traveler would be an understatement. Her adventures were highlighted by trips to Santiago, Chile, cruises to Alaska, and regular summer trips to Newport, Rhode Island, and the Kentucky Derby. An enthusiastic fan of the Olympics, she and her husband witnessed the Games in Lake Placid (NY), Barcelona (Spain), Seoul (South Korea) and Atlanta (GA).
Patty was a noted cook, voracious reader, and lover of animals. She was a creative spirit who could always be found at the kitchen table working on crafts and science projects with her grandchildren. The arts were her true passion. Whether it was attending the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, watching the latest foreign film at the Angelika or making her annual theater trip to New York City, she did not miss a performance or a play.
She will be missed, love and always remembered.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held from 1:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. on May 8th, 2021, at the Dallas Country Club.
