It is with very heavy hearts that we announce Dr. Pablo Patricio Zeballos of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed away on April 24, 2022, surrounded by his loving family after a valiant, 16-month battle with brain cancer.
Pablo was born in 1971 to Dr. R. Jorge and Lucia Zeballos in Arequipa, Peru. Pablo attended the Anglo-American School Prescott in Peru before moving with his parents and three brothers to Denver, Colorado, at the age of 11, where he attended Hill Middle School. Pablo and his family relocated to El Paso, Texas, in 1984, where he attended and graduated from Coronado High School. In 1994, Pablo received his B.S. from the University of Texas at El Paso, where he was an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In 1996 he received his M.S. in microbiology from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Pablo went on to study medicine and obtained his osteopathic medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. It is there that he met his future wife and the love of his life, Dr. Laura Spies Zeballos, whom he wed on September 7, 2002, in Austin at St. Teresa Catholic Church, with a reception held at the Austin Country Club. They went on to have two children: Elena Catherine, who is in 10th grade at The Hockaday School, and Patrick Collin, who is in 8th grade at St. Mark’s School of Texas.
Pablo obtained his specialty training in physical medicine and rehabilitation and further completed a fellowship in pain management at UT Southwestern in 2008. He was the founder of Interventional Spine & Pain of Dallas. Pablo was voted “D Best Doctors”, by his colleagues for 8 years in a row and the "Patient's Choice Award" for several years. He was an active and important part of the medical community in Dallas and was loved by so many of his patients and other members of the medical community.
Pablo loved nothing more than spending time with his family when not caring for his patients. His greatest joy, and biggest honor in life, was being the father to Patrick and Elena, whom he loved and adored with all his heart. He especially loved celebrating holidays and had a unique way of making them special. Pablo had a tremendous heart and loved caring for people. This included not only his patients but anyone who was in need of help. He was an avid fan of the “beautiful game” and of his favorite club, Manchester City. Pablo was also a lover of all things chocolate!
Pablo is survived by his wife and children, his parents, and by his three brothers and their spouses: Dr. Jorge M. and Gunilla (Anderson) Zeballos of the Woodlands, Texas; Dr. Alvaro and Ericka (Mullett) Zeballos of Richmond, Virginia; and Drs. Claudio and Margaret (Mann) Zeballos of San Antonio. He is also survived by Laura’s siblings: Phillip Spies of Austin, and Mary Margaret Spies and her partner Adian Kummet, who live in Dallas. Pablo leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and his beautiful Italian Greyhounds, Giorgio and Gigi.
Pallbearers are Dr. Alvaro Zeballos, Dr. Claudio Zeballos, Dr. Jorge M. Zeballos, Alexander Zeballos, Dr. Mark LeDoux, Justin Mapes, Preston Whisenant, and Renato Obando.
The family gives its deepest thanks and appreciation for the overwhelming love and support shown by so many people throughout the past 16 months. A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, at 8017 Preston Road in Dallas, on Saturday, April 3o, at 10 am.
Pablo desired that his children’s success and happiness be his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the children’s college fund. Checks can be made to CollegeAmerica and mailed to Care of: Brown Ruth Advisors, Zeballos College Fund, 5910 North Central Expressway, Ste. 1660, Dallas, TX, 75206.
