Ola B Banks 87, was born in Minden, Louisiana on November 13, 1934. She was born to the union of Pearlie Mae Bolden and Andrew Jackson. Ola eventually settled in Dallas, Texas where she passed away on July 18, 2022. She was 87 years old.
After graduating from High School Ola embarked on a distinguished academic career. She completed her undergraduate studies at Bishop College and a master’s degree in economics from North Texas State University. She was part of a select group of graduate students on a National Science Foundation scholarship chosen to return to the public school system to teach economics. Ola served the public school system with distinction for forty years. She received numerous awards and accolades as an educator which included positions at J.N. Ervin, T.C. Marsh, F.D. Roosevelt, and South Oak Cliff schools in Dallas Independent School District.
She married Walter Lee Banks Sr. in 1955 and to this union was born a son, Dr. Eric A Banks; she has one son, Timothy Ray Jackson prior to her marriage with Walter. She is preceded in passing by Walter and remained a widow.
Sisters Barbara Roberson and Elisabeth Bolden and sister-in-law Bettye Banks survive Ola. She is preceded in death by sister Ethel Jackson and brothers Jesse and Robert Jackson.
Along with siblings and in-laws, she leaves to cherish her memories daughter-in-law Cheryl Sparks Banks, and grandsons Christopher Banks and Tory Preston. In addition, nieces Elisabeth Jones and her daughter Jamie, LaTanya Alexander and her husband Edward, and Karin Banks along with nephews Lavert Roberson Jr. and Howard H. Banks. She leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn her passing and celebrate her life as well.
A visitation for Ola will be held Friday, July 29, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232. A funeral service will occur Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 6300 South R.L., Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232. A committal service will occur Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Laurel Land Mem Park - Dallas, 6300 S. R.L. Thornton Frwy., Dallas, TX 75232.
