On April 4, 2023 our dad Nghia Nguyen passed away at 9:40pm in Plano, TX. He was a loving husband and father of eight. He came from Da Lat in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War he fought for the ARVN, and like a lot of soldiers he and his family didn't get out before the fall of the South. He was sent to a re-education camp and his family lost everything they had. But they persevered, and in the 1990's started the process of immigrating to America with his wife and his 2 youngest daughters. He came here speaking no English and with about $50 to his name. Despite this, he provided for his family, became a US citizen, and saw his family adapt to and thrive in this country. Over the course of the last 20+ years, he sponsored the rest of his children and their families during their immigration process. He leaves behind Van Nguyen his wife of 62 years, eight children, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Two of his grandsons, both recent immigrants themselves, continue his legacy of service, one in the U.S. Army and the other in the U.S. Marine Corps.
And if the measure of a man's wealth is the family legacy he leaves behind, Nghĩa Nguyễn was a rich, rich man.
