Nancy Y. King, age 87, died on January 2, 2023. She was born in Chula Vista, California on November 22, 1935 ,and lived in Orlando, Florida, until attending college. She obtained a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Florida in 1957 and a PhD in Chemistry from Duke University in 1961.
She married Creston A. King, Jr. on August 1, 1962. She did research in Houston at Baylor Medical Center and at Rice University. They moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1966. She initially taught high school chemistry at The Academy of the Sacred Heart and science and math at Louise S. McGehee School. Later she worked in computer programming at Loyola University until retirement at age 79. She enjoyed sewing, restoring old cars, helping fix and build airplanes, gardening and playing cards with friends among many other hobbies.
She was preceded in death by her father Wilbur Lawrence Yarrington, mother Ethel Yarrington and step-mother Mary Orr Yarrington; her sister Jean Varnon and her grandson Nathan Tyler Irving. She is survived by her husband Creston A. King, Jr., and children Creston A. King, III (Elizabeth), Laura Irving (Scott) and William King, II (Tari) and five grandchildren.
The family will have a celebration of life in New Orleans at a later date.
