Michelle was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 26, 1951 to Nathan and Mamie Murray.
Michelle married Gregory Smith on May 02, 1969 and in that union, they had two children, Corey and Kimberly.
Michelle’s life was lived well and was well loved! She was a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur. She founded and established Michelle’s Place Jazz Lounge in Dumas, Arkansas and Corner Closet online clothing store in Dallas, TX - one the of the first to pioneer online shopping. Her lively spirit touched everyone she knew. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and caregiver – Taking care of family whenever needed. Nothing was more important than family to her. Out of the family of twelve children, Michelle was number eight in the sibling line up. Although she was the baby sister, she was affectionately known as the rock of the family! Michelle will be forever remembered for her fierce independence, tenacity, strength, and constructive criticisms! Her sense of humor, caring heart, love and loyalty to family and faith grew more evident in her final days. She was proudly baptized for the remission to past sins under the pastorage of the Israel of God church in Dallas, TX. Prior to her passing, Michelle expressed not to mourn her in death because she was now ready and at peace when that time came.
Michelle leaves to cherish her memory, her son Corey Smith (Shawana), her daughter Kimberly Smith-Cotton, four grandchildren: Marcus, Micah, Mason and Kori; and one great-grandchild, Julian.
Six siblings: Phyllis Porter, Bonita Hill, Linda Tate (Steve), Nathan, Kenneth (Lydia) and Michael (Malachy), and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Nathan and Mamie Murray, and four siblings: Toni Brown, Patricia Lewis, Jacqueline Canty and Christopher Murray.
Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate Michelle’s life and find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is resting until the appointed time!
