Michael Christopher Nunez

Michael was born with big blue eyes and a full head of red hair. He was a busy, inquisitive child and always had a smile on his face. He was very bright and could carry on a full conversation at the age of 2. When his little sister, Angela, was born, he was excited. The two of them formed a very close lifelong bond.

Michael was always a very caring, generous person. In school, he would always befriend the newcomer or the lonely child with no friends. He worried about others his entire life.

After finishing high school at Red Oak High School, he went on to receive a degree in social work from UT Austin. He was a die hard fan of the UT Longhorns and everything related to UT-especially all their sports teams. He loved ALL sports and was a big Cowboy fan. He enjoyed going to concerts with his friends and listening to all types of music from oldies to heavy metal. Of course, he always enjoyed attending a sporting event. He was also a huge Star Wars fan. Michael loved to grill and was really quite good at it. He was an avid reader. He shared a passion for archeology and collecting statues with his mom. He was thrilled when he got to visit Chichen Itza as a child. He shared a passion for hunting and fishing with his dad. He was so excited when his dad taught him to hunt and he got his first kill-a wild turkey. Michael maintained several friendships from his high school and college days. In fact, he never met a stranger.

Michael dearly loved his children and was very proud of them. In fact, he loved and treasured his entire family and was always there for them. He greatly enjoyed holidays-especially Christmas. He also adored his British Shorthair cat, Bijan, who was named after a UT football player.

Michael was a teacher since 2003. He had a great passion for teaching and loved working in socioeconomically disadvantaged schools because he knew he made a difference. He bonded easily with his students. They all loved him as did the staff. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his students and helped them to advance and provided or obtained whatever services they needed. He worked most of his teaching years at Samuell High School in history and in the Social Studies Dept. and as head of the dept. He obtained the status of "exemplary" teacher and had very high ratings. His final year was at Molina High School where he was able to help many students working as a Special Ed teacher. He absolutely loved being at Molina and told everyone how much he loved his job. Staff enjoyed having Michael there as well. Michael made a huge difference in the lives of so many. We were blessed to have him for 47 years and his passing has left a huge void in our hearts.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Michael A. Nunez, his grandparents: Eduardo & Isabella Nunez, Don & Margarette Hodges, and Jesus & Adelaida Lopez, Uncle Eduardo Nunez, Aunts Kathy Nunez and Irma Lopez, and cousins Roland, Joe Ray, and Alfred Lopez.

He leaves behind his children, Eva and DD, their mother, Melinda, parents Joe & Sylvia Lopez, sisters Angela Fitzgerald (Joey), Monica Palomares (Steve), and Martha Gateley, numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, extended family, and close friends.

A viewing will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Ln. ,Dallas, TX. 75220. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, with interment following at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln., Dallas, TX. 75220. Funeral will be officiated by Pastor Ray Boyd. Pallbearers will be cousins Luis Bay & Mark Garcia, Jr. and close friends from high school & college Jeremy Hass, Paul Samuelson, Aaron Lee, James Moir, and Mike Young.
