Beloved former teacher, librarian, actress, and radio personality, died July 31, 2018, in Dallas, TX. Born February 18, 1925, preceded in death by her parents, Spiro and Anna Andrea of Jamestown, NY, and her husband, Robert Owen Hunter of Dallas.
Mrs. Hunter graduated from Jamestown HS, attended the University of Buffalo, and earned her BS from NTSU in Denton. TX. She was an actress in community theater in Jamestown, Orlando, FL, and Dallas, and produced and narrated literary programs for women and children in New York and Florida. Performed as Saturday Story Lady on ABC Radio Network, Jamestown, for five years. She was a longtime member of the Dallas Catholic Choir and Christ the King Church.
She taught at Christ the King, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Patrick, and St. Bernard Catholic Schools and Lakemont School, all in Dallas. One mother once wrote, “ Mrs. Hunter has a gift for bringing out the best in children. She encourages the bright ones to excel, yet she is so warm and encouraging to slower learners that they take pride in each new achievement. Many lessons of love as well as scholarship are learned in her classroom.” She shared her love of music and drama and her deep religious faith with her students and friends. After retirement at age 70, she moved for a year to Pogradec, Albania, where she established a free library in honor of her Albanian parents.
She is survived by her brother, John Andrea (Cheryl), and nieces and nephews: Susan Andrea, John Ticco (Regina), Dr. Paul Ticco (Lynn), Andrea Ticco Konscel (Lou), Paulette Andrea Davis (Paul), Jill Andrea Gilbert (Jamie). Services will be held at Calvary Hill Cemetery at 10 AM, August 18. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210, or St. Vincent de Paul Society, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, TX 75225.
