Mary Bonner DeShazo

Mary Bonner Burke DeShazo devoted wife and mother passed away October 29, 2023. She was a native of El Paso, Texas, but had lived in Dallas, Texas, since 1966.

Bonner was preceded in death by an infant daughter Elizabeth Anne, her parents Lydia Lorraine Corley Burke and Clinton Jones Burke. Bonner is survived by her husband John Jenkins DeShazo, Jr., son Charles Lee DeShazo, wife Lucy Hollands DeShazo and grandson David Barton DeShazo.

Living in Dallas brought much enjoyment to Bonner’s life. She and John were members of Park Cities Baptist Church where they enjoyed spiritual growth, involvement and fellowship with other church members. She had the privilege of serving the City of Dallas as Chair of the City’s Urban Rehabilitation Standards Board. Other boards which challenged her were Texas Area Five Health Systems Agency where she served on the Executive Board, and the Institutional Review Board for Human Protection of Baylor University Medical Center. Her intense love of God, home and country was the basis of her involvement for over 50 years in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and membership in the Michael Stoner Chapter of Dallas where she served as Regent. She served the Texas Society as State Organizing Secretary, State Chair of National Defense and DAR Service for Veteran Patients. Bonner proved her ancestry for membership in the Magna Charta Dames and Barons, Dallas-Fort Worth Colony, the Colonial Dames of America and the Dames of the Court of Honor. Through the years the other organizations of which she was a member or served as President were the Highland Park Browning Club, the Matheon Club, the Mary Kay Craig Class, the Dallas Museum of Art League, Angels Incorporated, East Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Arboretum Women’s Guild, the Dallas County Texas A&M Mothers’ Club, and the Dallas Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers’ Auxiliary, and the Dallas Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Auxiliary, Les Femmes du Monde, Dallas World Affairs Council Executive Board, and the Northwood Republican Woman’s Club.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 17 at 2:00 pm at Park Cities Baptist Church - Ellis Chapel, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75225. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
