Mary Clark Burgess, age 89, of Dallas, Texas, entered into rest on October 29, 2016. She was born on March 12, 1927, in Texarkana, Arkansas, and her parents were Earl Beall and Ida Clark. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Texarkana on June 26, 1927, with her sponsor being Mrs. Lonnie (Ada or “Dede”) McKee. She and her mother moved back and forth between Texarkana, Paris and Dallas.
She married Easton Alexander Burgess on June 28, 1947 at Holy Trinity Church in Dallas. They moved to St. Monica when it opened, and their children attended St. Monica School. Mary was a room mother at the school and was a Cub Scout den leader and a Girl Scout leader.
After Easton passed away in 1965, Mary attended El Centro College and learned bookkeeping. With help from Allen Burgess, she set up her Burgess Bookkeeping Services.
She has continued relationships with the St. Monica families she has known. She has participated on committees and organizations of the parish. In recent times, she has been a diocesan Parkland Hospital Chaplain volunteer, a member of the Legion of Mary and of the Catholic Daughters, and a St. Monica volunteer. She has been a Eucharistic minister at St. Monica and on Sundays at the Tremor nursing home.
On Fridays she used to participate in a painting program where she was able to paint numerous works of art on a variety of scenes, persons, and objects. She had her book club, bridge group, and weekly dinner group. She was also a devoted Star Trek fan. She recently moved to Christus St. Joseph Village in Coppell, Texas.
She is survived by her 4 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: Larry [his wife Betty and their 2 children Alex and Laura (husband George Marsolek)], Layne, Karen [her daughter Amy (husband Robbie Wright and their 2 children Aiden and Easton)] and Holli.
