Maria Cervantes Sosa

Maria Cervantes Sosa, age 91, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 24, 2019 in Dallas, TX. She was born on October 18, 1928 in Fargo, North Dakota to Luis and Crucita Cervantes. Raised in a Spanish speaking only home, she learned to speak English by watching American soap operas like Young and the Restless, Search for Tomorrow, and All My Children. She married Calisto Reyes Sosa in 1969 and raised three children. She was a lover of music and also loved to sing and dance. She once dreamed of being a singer. When she wasn’t busy tending to her family, she enjoyed embroidery and making intricate, beautiful flowers out of tissue paper, candy wrappers, toilet paper, egg cartons, and anything she could get her hands on. She also enjoyed her "whiskley" with her egg nog from time to time. She guarded her Jim Beam and made sure it was next to her favorite chair for easy access. Mrs. Sosa knew that when her supply of Jim Beam was getting low, her son-in-law, Anthony Green could be counted on to supply her with more. Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving woman who always put her children first, but her surviving children will always remember her as their Shero and Queen, and for her resiliency when life got tough. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Crucita Cervantes, husband, Calisto Reyes Sosa, and daughter, Cruz Perez. She is survived by her children, Louis Cervantes and Dolores Sosa Green; grandchildren, Israel Mancha, Angela Perez, Marie Perez, Lauren Calista Green, and Maya Michelle Green; great-grandchildren, Alisha Perez Ramos, Jessie Perez, Michael Lopez, Marissa Illene Lopez, and Nicholas Cruz Mancha; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Senior Source has been a tremendous support system for Mrs. Sosa and her family. As a result, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Senior Source.
