María Peña

On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, María Peña went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Born in Edinburg, Texas, to Rosendo and Mercedes Rosalez, María was one of ten children. She is survived by four of her siblings including Anita Treviño from Richmond, TX; Guadalupe Celis from Minidoka, ID; Rosendo Rosalez from Clarksville, TN and Rose García from Lake Dallas, TX.

María was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend who could always be counted on for good counsel, a delightful sense of humor and strong faith. She was married for fifty years to the late Raul Peña and she is survived by a daughter, Janie Peña of Dallas, TX.

A member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Dallas, María has served the Lord for over 40 years both here and in Lubbock, TX where she was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista for many years.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Hobletzille fourth floor hospice unit at Baylor University Medical Center for the kind and considerate care she received by staff. Special thanks to nurse Lorie Weigel and Dr. Rodríguez.

The family will receive friends and visitors at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 10th at the Northwest Highway Chapel of Sparkman Hillcrest. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
