Born: 1933 - Called to God: 2013
Our loving and graceful lady – wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend – was called to our Father after sharing her love and life with God, her husband, family and friends for 79 years.
She will ever be remembered for her love of family, always there to make each of us feel special, supporting us and giving of herself.
The oldest of three children, Peggy was born to Hugh D. and Margaret Brown Dunlap in Dallas, Texas. She was a loving sister to her brothers, Devereux and Chris.
While attending Highland Park High School in Dallas, she met Jere W. Thompson in 1949. Peggy attended the University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After Jere’s graduation from the University, they were married on June 5, 1954. Jere was her love, and Peggy, Jere’s. Together, they gave their love to each other and those around them. Even with Jere’s travel, their hearts were always close together.
Peggy and Jere have 7 children – Michael, Jere, Jr., Pat, Debbie, Kim, Chris and David – 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. “Peppy” as she was called by her grand- and great-grandchildren for her energy and high-spirits, loved family gatherings, large and small, and made every effort to attend the numerous events of every child, grandchild and great-grandchild. She was incredible in remembering every special occasion for her family.
In love of her faith, she became a Eucharistic minister, and she and Jere often took the opportunity to administer the sacrament of Holy Communion to others throughout their travels and in Dallas. Actively involved in numerous organizations – public and non-public – she always did for others before doing for herself.
Peggy will be missed for her faith, her values, her support, her love of family and friends. If those she touched only achieve half of what Peggy accomplished and gave, then we will have learned and loved well.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 2, 6:00-8:00pm at Sparkman Hillcrest with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00pm. Remembrance of her life will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 3, 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cistercian Abbey in Irving; Nexus Recovery Center, Inc.; MD Anderson Cancer Clinic; the School of Human Ecology at The University of Texas of Austin; UT Southwestern Medical Center, or any charity special to the donor.
