Margaret Ann Schmitz

Margaret graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Life High School in 1953. She married Lee Roy James Schmitz in February 1960 and moved with him to Bossier City, Louisiana where they began their family. In 1968, they moved back to Dallas, where their sixth child was born. As her children grew older, Margaret continued her education at El Centro College in Dallas, graduating on the Dean’s List with a certificate in Vocational Nursing and skills she would use throughout the remainder of her life.

Margaret and Lee Roy were divorced in March 1981. Margaret dedicated her life to her children, caring for them as she worked as a secretary; first at an insurance company and later for Marvin E. Poer & Company. When she retired from office work, she used her LVN skills to care for abled and disabled children in her home; and later cared for the elderly in their homes.

Margaret enjoyed reading, music and playing the piano, but her biggest enjoyment came in taking care of others. She had a deep affinity for children in need, volunteering for many years as a clown at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Later in life she gave her time and treasure supporting the DISD After School Meals Program.

Margaret is survived by her children (spouses): Thomas Lee Schmitz (Debbie), Kevin Jerome Schmitz (Beth), Rosemary Schmitz Martinez (Oscar), Jeanne Marie Schmitz, John William Schmitz and Marianne Schmitz Roland; by her grandchildren: Sarah Tessmar, Rachael Walker, Diana Smith, Parker Martinez, Jared Martinez, Marisa Martinez, Anna Schmitz, William Schmitz, Maggie Schmitz, Anna Roland, Kenneth Roland and Audrey Roland; by her great-grandchildren: Ashlynn, Evah, Luke, Dylan and Stella; by her sisters Theresa Pereira and Kathy Hansen and her brothers Pat Parkerson and Mike Parkerson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Cecil and Jim Parkerson, and her sister Mary McGowan.

A visitation and viewing will take place on Monday, January 24 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220 from 10:00-11:30 am, followed immediately by a recitation of the Rosary and graveside service.
