On March 19, 2023, Lupe “Wella” Suarez Moreno passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law. She was 92 years old. A lifelong Texas native, Lupe was born in 1931 in Ennis, Texas. Lupe just recently lost her sister, Eulalia Banuelos, at age 100. She is survived by her brother though, Lee Suarez, who is 97 years old. Lupe was the mother of five children. Lupe is survived by her husband of the past 77 years, David A. Moreno, her 5 children and their spouses; Mario and Lydia Moreno, Patricia and Steve Segovia Sr., Rudy and Diana Moreno, Juanita and Ricardo Salinas, and Frances and Albert J. Gonzalez Sr. These beautiful children gave Lupe 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren. I am her grandson, and I can tell you that family and love was all that my Grandmother cared about. She was not interested in the knowledge that can be found in books, but she could certainly tell you when someone was born and how long their mother had been in labor. She could recite these life-changing events as if it had happened to her personally. I feel the loss of her parents at a very young age gave her the wisdom to know that the only real thing that matters in this world, is the love we share for each other. It is only fitting that she was born on Valentine’s Day, “Love Day.” She touched so many lives.
Lupe and her husband David reside in Oak Cliff on Silver Springs Drive and have since 1971. Lupe was an avid member of Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Catholic Church in Dallas.
Lupe’s mother passed away giving birth to her. She was adopted by her Aunt, her mother’s sister, Juanita Suarez and her husband, Guillermo Suarez. Then tragically, when Lupe was 6 years old, Juanita Suarez passed away and Lupe found herself motherless again. She was raised by her Uncle, Guillermo Suarez and his children. She always referred to Guillermo as her father. She always spoke of her cousins as if they were her siblings, and in her heart, I guess they were.
Lupe spent many hours selling and delivering Avon products in the Ledbetter area and worked for a period of time, serving children daily in the cafeteria of an elementary school in the Dallas Independent School District, where even the children, who only knew her from the cafeteria, referred to her as “Wella.” She loved to spend her time on the phone involved in the lives of her family and extended family and she could often be found enjoying her “stories”, specifically, “General Hospital.”
Please join us in celebrating her life. She will be missed immeasurably.
John Chapter 1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
He was the world and world came to be through him, but the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave the power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision but of God. And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.
John testified to him and cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, the one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.” From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace, because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
