Lori Kay Winter

Lori Kay Davis Winter of Midland, Texas died in Dallas, Texas, on February 13th, 2021. Lori was born in Midland on January 2, 1965, as the youngest of four children of James Lee and Dorothy Louise Davis.

Lori Winter was most associated with Basin Aviation within the field of private air travel. Always interested in flight, she soloed on her 16th birthday on the way to her private pilots’ license, one of several licenses she would obtain in her career. Lori started working at Basin at the age of 16 climbing to the Presidency. At Basin, she met the love of her life, Michael Winter, and they married in 1984. Together they took the world by the horns until Michael’s sudden death at 47, but it was always Mike and Lori.

Lori continued to enjoy various interests in new home construction and renovation business, NASCAR, travel to tropical places especially Cabo San Lucas, and her beloved farm and home outside of the town of Mart, in Central Texas. Her dogs were always by her side. Those who knew Lori well recognized she lived life her way and according to her terms. Fiercely independent she never gave in or up…a true Texan.

Lori was the favorite of her nieces and nephews. She opened her home to many people and a menagerie of animals; no one in need was ever turned away. Generous to her nephews and nieces and their children, and her close friends, Lori will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sister Sandra and her husband Jimmy Maddox of Dallas, her brother David and his wife Peggy Davis of Midland, sister-in-law Rhonda Davis of Midland and ten nieces and nephews. Very special in her life were Brian and Jeffrey Maddox, two nephews and partners in the fun escapades and trying times in Lori’s life. Always by her side were two furry kids, Maya and Cabo.

Lori was preceded in death by her husband Michael Winter, by her parents, Jimmy and Dorothy, and her brother Michael. Lori believed in the comfort of being reunited after death with these who passed before her.

Graveside service for family and friends will be held in Mart, Texas, at the Mart Cemetery at 1:30 PM on Sunday, February 21,2021 (Masks; social distancing). Afterward, family will be receiving guests at the farmhouse at the end of CR147A out of Mart. Arrangements are under the direction of Sparkman-Hillcrest in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Mart ISD FFA (Future Farmers).
