Kristin Jordan Harkins

Kristin Kay Jordan Harkins was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 23, 1959 to Priscilla Bartels and Eugene Jordan, the fourth of six children and the third of five girls. She was raised in Pueblo, Colorado, where she attended Trinity Lutheran Church & School until the 7th grade, when her family moved to Tomball, Texas. She attended Zion Lutheran Church & School, then attended Tomball High School. She graduated third in her class in 1978 having lettered in basketball, track & cheerleading. She received her Associates Degree from Angelina Junior College where she received a basketball scholarship.

Upon earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with High Honors from The University of Texas at Austin, in December 1983, she was employed by Exxon Company, U.S.A., as a production and reservoir engineer responsible for multiple oil and gas fields in East Texas and the Panhandle. Her responsibilities included designing new well completions and workovers of existing wells, production equipment design and installation and economic and reservoir evaluation, with an emphasis on secondary recovery waterfloods. While employed with Exxon, she earned a Master in Business Administration from the University of Houston in May, 1988.

After receiving her J.D. with Honors in May, 1993, from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law, she practiced her profession at Harris, Tucker & Hardin, P.C., which was later absorbed into Locke Purnell Rain Harrell and then merged with Liddell Sapp to form Locke Liddell & Sapp (now Locke Lord, LLP). In 2000, Kristin joined Conley Rose, P.C., as a shareholder and was a founding member of the Dallas office. In January 2018, she became a Partner at Wick Phillips.

Kristin Jordan Harkins has practiced intellectual property law for over 25 years. She was a member of the Texas Bar, is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Western and Southern Districts of Texas. She was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. She participated in the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section and served as its Chair in 2014-2015. She was an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and served as the Chair of the Trademark Law Committee in 2012-2014. She was also an active member of the International Trademark Association, where she served on various committees. Her publications and presentations include: "Does the PTO Really Want All This?, Managing the McKesson Mayhem," presented at the March 2009 Texas State Bar Intellectual Property Section Patent Prosecution Workshop CLE; "Highlights of the Madrid Protocol," presented at the March 2003 Dallas/Fort Worth Intellectual Property Law Association CLE; and "Aligning Trademarks with Business Objectives: A Practical Guideline," presented at the March 2002 Texas State Bar Intellectual Property Section CLE.

Kristin was married to Roger W. Harkins and is the mother to twin daughters, Hannah Elaine and Hailey Ellen. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and had served as President of the School Board.

Kristin was diagnosed with appendix cancer two and a half years ago and battled numerous complications. She fought a very hard battle for her husband and daughters. Kristin left this earth to be with her Lord on Tuesday evening of March 20, 2018, surrounded by family and close friends.

Kristin is preceded in death by her father, Gene Jordan and her brother Steven Jordan. She is survived by her husband, Roger Harkins, her daughters Hannah and Hailey, her mother Priscilla and step-father Ben Scholl of Tomball, her sisters and brothers-in-law: Pamela & Tommy Kaiser of Tomball, Beth & Charles Kirkpatrick of Austin, Cheryl & Bill Allcorn of Tomball, Debra & John Ed Stepan of San Antonio; nieces and nephews: Carrie & John Mills, Cadence, Emmett, & Addison, Kayla & Kyle Radford, Ella, Kelsey Kaiser, Katelin & Wyatt Kirkpatrick, Grant, Jordan, Bailey, & Parker Stepan; step siblings: Rachel Scholl of Tomball, Sarah & Craig Bowie of Dallas, David Scholl of Michigan.

She is also survived by her Aunt Dorthy Bartels, Uncle Eugene & Aunt Beverly Bartels, both of Tobias, Nebraska, and numerous cousins in Nebraska and Wisconsin.
