Kent Bicknell was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 17, 1945. While surrounded by his family, he passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Hunter Bicknell and Martha Doris Kent Bicknell.
As a boy, Kent's passion was baseball and basketball. In the Boy Scouts, he achieved the rank of Life Scout. Kent attended Bethel Methodist Church and was involved in Sunday School, Sunday morning church service, and the Methodist Youth Fellowship on Sunday evenings. Beginning in the 7th grade, he sang in the adult church choir on Sundays. Kent also played the French horn.
At Baylor University, Kent played baseball, was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity member, and graduated in 1968 with a business degree. He declined an offer to play professional baseball, instead choosing to relocate to Dallas, Texas, where he made a career as the founder of a personal financial planning company and later a boutique investment management firm.
In his spare time, Kent enjoyed his family. He loved inventing new words, telling dad jokes, and entertaining us with his unique wit and humor. He never missed his sons' sporting events and enjoyed spending time at the family farm in East Texas. He loved studying Scripture, participated in various ministries, taught Sunday school, led Bible studies, organized social ministries, and shared the Gospel.
Kent is survived by his wife Carolyn Holloway Bicknell, sons Jordan (Jessica) Bicknell, Will (Katie) Bicknell, and David Bicknell; grandson Austin Bicknell; and Kent's brother Hunter (Becky) Bicknell.
A funeral service will be held at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 2 pm.
Some have requested where a memorial could be given in Kent’s honor. We know Dad would love any donations to go toward the Prison Ministry he was a part of for many years.
