Kenneth Anthony Perez, 78, son of Gloria and Alvin Perez, was born in New Orleans and moved to Houston as a teen. A graduate of the University of Houston and the University of Texas School of Law, he was a private man but always interested in people’s welfare and gave sound advice to those seeking counsel.
Ken traveled the world with Karen, his wife of 37 years, maintained numerous lifelong friendships, was an unrelenting jokester and co-conspirator in mischief with his daughter, Katie Metheny, and enjoyed discussing books and puns with his stepson, Kevin Hudson.
His most favorite activity was as a grandfather, sharing a love of books, dogs, travel, chicory coffee, gumbo, beach trips and chess. His wicked and silly sense of humor are part of the legacy he leaves with his three adoring granddaughters, Mary Grace Granados, Vivian Metheny and Lucy Metheny, whose lives he shaped and tended to with abundant affection, endless interest and unwavering support. Ken had a deep affection and respect for his son-in-law, Andrew Metheny, and grandson-in-law, José Granados. He especially loved sharing his life with dogs Tomadachi, Nessie, Pearl and Les.
A visitation will be held at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home on Garland Road in Dallas on Friday, June 7 from 6–8 p.m. A celebration of life for family and friends will take place in New Orleans at a future date. Many thanks to caregivers Caria, Yvette and many more at Christian Care and Bella Hospice.
