Joyce Roberts Beach, age 80, passed away on Thursday August 26, 2021 in Plano, Texas. She was born in High Point, North Carolina on September 28, 1940 to Frank and Ruth Roberts. Joyce graduated from High Point College with a B.A. in Education in 1962 and later in life completed her Paralegal Certification from SMU. She married Gordon A. Beach in 1961 at Archdale Methodist Church and they were blessed with two sons, Gordon and Robert.
Joyce was a Paralegal at Gay and McCall for many years. In her spare time, she loved to work in the garden and never missed the opportunity to visit Garden Tours in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She was active in the Plano community for 47 years. Joyce was appointed to several City of Plano Boards and Commissions, including the Planning and Zoning Commission. Her tireless devotion to the City of Plano during its major growth years helped create a community that the citizens of Plano benefit from today and will be a lasting legacy of a life committed to public service.
Joyce was a world traveler and had the opportunity to visit many of the places she could only dream about as a young girl growing up in High Point, knowing there was a larger world out there. She was able to fulfill her dream of traveling to Australia and New Zealand and visited numerous other countries.
Her family and friends will always remember her for her devotion to family, love of life, her brilliant mind, her life-long quest for learning and for her infectious laugh and enjoyment of life. Joyce loved participating as a team member in Trivial Pursuit competitions, both locally and on every cruise she went on. This competitive spirit probably originated from once being a contestant on the television program Jeopardy.
Joyce was a recipient of a kidney donated by Brandon Smith, son of Bill and Lissa Smith, which enabled her to enjoy 17 more healthy years with her family and friends. She was very grateful to the wonderful transplant team at Baylor and her Oncologist Dr. Konduri at Baylor Sammons Hospital.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ruth Roberts and her son Gordon E. Beach.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Gordon A. Beach, her son Robert Beach and his wife Kaye Lyn, her sisters Frankie Byrum (McAuley) and Charlotte Roberts from North Carolina, and chosen grandchildren Madison Monroe and Anthony Aranda.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution in Joyce’s name to the Salvation Army or to the National Kidney Foundation.
