Now safe in the arms of his Savior and free from pain and illness is our beloved John. Born in Dallas, Texas on February 18, 1974 he left this earthly life on September 24, 2010. Meeting the challenges of living with Cystic Fibrosis with a quiet strength, dignity and faith, John was adored by family and friends. His passions were his God, his family, his friends, the Aggies, his dogs and Coca-Cola. John attended Bryan Adams High School and Texas A&M, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He embraced life to the fullest. In high school John enjoyed band, tennis and memberships in many organizations, serving as Student Council president. He loved his whole A&M experience. He was actively involved in Fish camp, serving as a counselor and, in his senior year, as one of the co-leaders. Gig ‘Em! John went on to complete a Masters of Biblical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary. At DTS John met his best friend and soul mate, Jennifer Anzur. They were married on June 22, 2002 and blessed with the birth of a son, Jack McCall, on November 28, 2006. Always active in church, John, with his family, had attended Redeemer Bible Church for several years. Finding a loving church family so close to their home was a blessing, while they maintained many friendships from their previous church fellowship, Trinity Bible Church. In September, 2007, John received a bilateral lung transplant, giving him extra years with his family. Complications in his recovery from a second transplant this May took him away from us much too soon. But we feel so blessed to have had him in our lives for as long as we did.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories are his wife, Jennifer and son, Jack, of Dallas; mother and stepfather, Beth and Jim Hilliard of Dallas; father and stepmother David and Anita Goldberg of Houston; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Sandra Anzur of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Ree Lowery (Monte) of Houston, Brooke Mercer (Mike) of Victoria, and Lauren Goldberg of Knoxville, TN; brother, Stuart Hilliard (Amy) of Denton; aunt Ree (Carl) Witt of Tyler; uncle Charlie (Wanda) McCall of Jackson, TN and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of special friends. John is preceded in death by his Grandmother and Granddad, Betty Jo and Charlie McCall, with whom he shared a special bond and his Papaw and Honey, Leroy and Honey Goldberg. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and other health professionals for the loving care given to John over the years. So many of you became just like family. God bless you. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at the funeral home. A Memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday September 29, 2010 at Redeemer Bible Church, 721 Easton Rd., Dallas, TX. with Pastors Donald Geiger, Sr. and Jeff Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the John D. Goldberg Family Trust, 8144 Walnut Hill Lane, Suite 1190, Dallas, Texas 75231 for his son, Jack.
