John Robert Dale passed away peacefully in his sleep due to complications of multiple sclerosis, on January 23, 2024. He was born on August 18, 1956, in Dallas to John L (Jack) and Jayne Dale. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, State Rush Captain and a Texas Silver Spur. He was also a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and the Northwood Club.
Upon leaving UT, he went to work as salesman and then president at Specialty Container Corp, and worked there his entire career until the company was sold in 2010.
While he was able, he loved fishing, travel and scuba diving.
John suffered from a severe case of MS for the last 20 years, with an attitude of remarkable acceptance and strength. He never lost a positive view of his future and all the things that he would one day do, regardless of how challenging they might appear. He was always optimistic and had a smile on his face in spite of his many physical challenges. He was loved by all and had a big heart.
Without question, the star of his life was his daughter Lauren Dale, who cared for him beyond all bounds. She lifted him in and out of everything her entire life as soon as she was able. John was often stubborn and cantankerous, but when she talked, he listened. She had convinced him to take his first vacation in 16 years, and to take PT and strength training leading up to it, and that’s where he spent the last few days of his life, on a beautiful Caribbean island, with Lauren, his brother Larry, and Larry’s wife Bev. Lauren’s love for her Dad was a strength and example not only for John but also for all of those around her. She was a devoted daughter as well as companion, caretaker and best friend to John.
John drew a tough card for the last twenty years of his life, but he endured it courageously and will be remembered by his family and friends for his adaptability and upbeat attitude. He caused us all to appreciate the important things in life such as family and the ability to move about and enjoy life and never take that for granted.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to his caregiver Andrew, and to all the wonderful people at The Shelton, including Tony, Alex, Eddie, Antonio and Brandon, who were such a help to him all these years.
In addition to his daughter, Lauren Catherine Dale, he is survived by his brother, Lawrence B. Dale and wife Beverley; sister, Virginia Dale of Minneapolis; ex-wife and loyal friend, Kim Dale; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 pm, February 13, in the chapel of Park Cities Presbyterian Church, 4124 Oak Lawn Ave, preceded by a private family burial at Sparkman Hillcrest cemetery.
In remembrance of John R. Dale, if you are so moved, the family asks that donations be sent to the Yellow Rose Gala Foundation in honor and memoriam of John R. Dale.
