Joanne Cave Cantwell, 90, of University Park, went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2022. She passed away at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Dallas on December 19, 1931, to Joe Bob and Gertrude Ballard Cave. After graduating from Highland Park High School in 1949, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from SMU in 1952. In 1970, she completed a Master's degree in Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Mrs. Cantwell taught school for 35 years, including 25 at University Park Elementary School. She was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Kappa Kappa Gamma, the Junior League of Dallas, the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, and the Craig Class.
After she completed her master’s degree, they returned to the Park Cities where she continued her teaching career.
Joanne loved teaching and kept all the letters and photos from her students. She especially enjoyed helping each of her 4th grade classes perform “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”.
Joanne loved being with her daughters and their families. She attended as many dance recitals, games, concerts, and marching band performances as possible. She was always excited to try new things, whether it was a road trip, dinner out (especially at El Fenix), camping at state parks, or “field trips” with her grandchildren. She and her sister Carolyn toured Europe, the Holy Lands, England, and Scotland. Finding tombs of Cave ancestors in old English churches and staying at Cave Castle was especially meaningful.
Survivors include 3 daughters and their families: Catherine and Tom Eagle, Elizabeth and Paul Weber and Nancy Beck; grandchildren: Brittany Beck; Alexander, Anna, and Harrison Eagle; Joseph and Nicole Weber, Michael Weber, Emmalee Weber and David Perigo; ; great-granddaughters, Eva Joy Weber and Isabella Perigo; her sister, Carolyn Cave and husband, George Black, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would also like to thank her loving caregiver, Kim Grass, and Faith Presbyterian Hospice for their care.
A Memorial Service will be held at Wynne Chapel, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday, April 12, at 3 p.m. A private family graveside was be held at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.
