Joanne Hecht Blum, 71, of Dallas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her immediate family, on June 7, 2019 after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was a native of Philadelphia, PA, and the daughter of the late Jean Hecht and Richard Hecht. Joanne is survived by her husband, Cary Blum of Dallas, and their two children, Dena Latham and Andrew Blum, her grandchildren Talia and Ethan; and her brother, Richard Hecht, Jr. Joanne dedicated her life to her husband, family, pets and friends and will be missed by all who knew her. She impacted the lives of so many people throughout her life by shaping and creating young minds thru her career as a teacher and educator. She truly loved working with children and ensuring that every student was prepared and had fun while learning. Joanne and Cary were introduced by a mutual friend in December 1969, married in 1971, and argued for the next 47 years. She was a wonderful wife, dog mom and exceptional mother and grandmother. Joanne was always a bright ray of sunshine for all that came in contact with her as witnessed by the amount of friends she amassed during her 52 years of living in Dallas, Chicago and throughout her life as witnessed by friends she had for over 50 years.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Emanu-El on Monday, June 10, at 2:30 pm, to be led by Rabbi David Stern. The family will gather for a graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas following the memorial service.
